Porting Android into iPhone 3G

android-ported-into-iphone3g.jpg
Lots of news about Android and iPhone this week, one of the interesting thing is the latest hack to port Android OS engine into iPhone 3G. Although the hack code is seems like in version 0.1.0 but if you’re an adventurous iPhone user and wanted to do some experiment you’re good to go.

Porting the Android OS almost all its features up and running except for some power management features issues that little bit quirky. Of course doing this tech exercise requires your iPhone is Jailbreaked by either through iPhone dev team’s PwnageTool or Geohot’s blackra1n. If you jailbreak your iPhone using Spirit you’re out of luck because this won’t work. Again, if you’re into some adventure you can go over to PCWorld for detailed instructions on how to install Android on your iPhone 3G.

Leaked iPod Touch with camera

Another Vietnam-based blog site Tinhte is a source of the nextgen iPod Touch leaks with revealing pictures and video. Looking at it seems like a legit piece, it power-on and the surfaces looks like 100% Apple specs (or prototype) but we can just speculate while we wait for the real thing to hit the stores soon.

Looking at this particular iPod Touch model the major addition is the built-in camera. The rumors is that, it is a 2-MP camera and with 64GB storage and looks like pretty much like iPhone 3Gs in terms of apps navigation except it doesn’t have the phone capability, of course.

A Digitimes research analyst came up with an estimates of the future sales of the next iPhone, yes that most talk about version of iPhone. Digitimes analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that its manufacturer—Foxconn will deliver some 24 million units to Apple in 2010.

Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 4G on June 7, 2010 during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

According to Kou, the next gen iPhone 4G will be running on Arm Cortex A8 engine with 512MB memory, running on iPhone 4.0 OS capable of multi-task processing, better battery life and 33% sexier and thinner than previous iPhones, 960×640 IPS display with FFS technology for a higher quality image. With that, it seems like these specs are out of synch with the recent leaks and teardown..hmm!.

No more web store for Nexus One

nexus-one-phone.jpg
I guess Google just figured out that selling mobile phones online are not their cup of tea and therefore they decided to pull out the plug of Nexus One online store. Google introduce Nexus One in January with much hype and high expectation to give consumers an option for subsidize plan through T-Mobile and an option to purchase new mobile phones without carrier restrictions subsidy (aka unlocked).

According to Google’s official blog post that they will no longer selling the Nexus One through the web store but instead might focus on retail setup where customers can actually experience by touching and holding the gadget.

Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3Gs 3.1.2 3.1.3 using Spirit

iphone-spirit-jailbreak.jpg
A tethered jailbreak is a term in which if for some reason you need to restart your jailbreaked iPhone you need your iPhone attached to a computer to assist with the booting sequence. Some users of iPhone tethered jailbreak is always worried that their iPhone might run out of battery or suddenly froze and that will require cold boot.. worry no more untethered jailbreak is here.

A new jailbreak tool named “Spirit” is now available which allows you to modify the iPhone OS to enable tethering or run apps not approved by Apple through appstore. The “Spirit” jailbreak works with all three iPhone OS powered iDevices such as iPhone 3.1.2 and 3.1.3, iPod touch 2G/3G, and the new iPad 3.2.

Speaking of iPad, the Spirit author mentioned that for iPad jailbreak is still in beta version which might resulted to some apps can cause problems for the device. I guess this must be something to do with Cydia, which is primarily designed for iPhone and using it for iPad might break some apps.

Also, you need to know that “Spirit” is for jailbreaking only and won’t unlock your iPhones this means you’re stuck with carriers supported by Apple (e.g. AT&T, etc.). You might also need to review the Apple terms that might break warranty or discontinue your mobile phone service by doing this process.
